National Disability Scheme

On Thursday 29th November the Prime Minister introduced legislation for the National Disability Insurance Scheme into the Commonwealth Parliament.

The legislation sets out the framework for a national scheme ‰ÛÒ a framework that will initially operate in five launch sites from mid-next year.

The legislation has been referred to a Senate Committee for their consideration. During their inquiry, the Senate Committee will hear evidence from people with disability, their families and carers about the Bill, which means everyone will have another opportunity to consider the details, and to input into the drafting and design of this important legislation.

The Government will also release a discussion paper in the coming weeks to seek further input from the community on the shape of the NDIS rules. These are the legislative instruments that will set out the operational aspects of the scheme.
