In response to the Commonwealth Governments Royal Commission into the Natural Disaster Arrangements, Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) has developed a Practice Note to the FIA Code, designed to assist in fundraising for, and during, times of national and/or natural disasters. ‘National disaster’ are events such as floods, bushfires, droughts as well as acts of terrorism that cause national strife. It also acknowledged that a national disaster could be one occurring within States/Territories that cause significant impact.
Covering accountability, governance, clarity of communications and the implications and considerations for different fundraising channels (including outsourcing) this Practice Note provides direction and guidance for how organisations should fundraise for and during national disasters, and is endorsed by the recent Commission into the Bushfire Crisis.
