ACNC Advisory Board appointed

On the 25th Febraury in a joint media release from the Assistant Treasurer, the Hon David Bradbury MP, and the Minister for Social Inclusion, the Hon Mark Butler MP, appointments to the ACNC Advisory Board were formally announced.

There are 11 new appointees including four ex–officio members from the states and territories joining Robert Fitzgerald AM, who was announced as the inaugural Chair Designate of the ACNC Advisory Board in May 2011.

The ACNC Advisory Board is established by section 135-5 of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act (2012) with members appointed for a term of three years under section
140-10.

The appointees come from a broad cross section of the community and bring a wide range of skills to the Board including a strong understanding of the charitable sector and its issues. With this cumulative knowledge and expertise in the not-for-profit sector, law, taxation and accounting, the members of the Board will undoubtedly provide valuable support and insight to the Commissioner of the ACNC, Ms Susan Pascoe AM and the ACNC.

The new appointees are:

·Ms Fiona McLeay (Deputy Chair), Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH) in Victoria.

·Ms Gina Anderson, Philanthropy Fellow with the Centre for Social Impact and experienced NFP director.

·Mr Paul O’Callaghan, Executive Director of Catholic Social Services Australia and former Executive Director of the Australian Council for International Development.

·Professor Myles McGregor Lowndes OAM, Director of the Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Non-profit Studies at the Queensland University of Technology.

· Ms Sheila McHale, CEO of Palmerston Association, a large Western Australian NFP drug and alcohol organisation, and former member of Parliament in WA.

· Mr David Crosbie, CEO of the Community Council for Australia and a member of the NFP Sector Reform Council.

· Mr Anthony Lang, a barrister specialising in NFP law and a Board Member of the Victorian Council of Social Service.
