Blocktexx is a fashion technology platform with the goal of recycling existing clothing. They aim to source discarded donated clothing from Salvation Army and convert it into a fabric that they could then turn into a garment and give back to the store to sell.
Polyester can take from 20 to 200 years to break down, while also remitting a variety of chemicals. Over the next three to five years, Blocktexx hopes to take tens of thousands of tonnes of textiles out of landfill.
