Melbourne CafÌ© raises awareness about gender pay gap and donates to women‰Ûªs charities

A cafe in Melbourne raises awareness of the gender pay gap by charging men an 18 percent ‘tax’ and donating the money to various women’s charities.

The 18 percent surcharge represents the difference between the  remuneration men and women received for doing the same work in 2016 (as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics).

Alex O’Brien, the owner of Handsome Her caf̩, says men are welcome and that the surcharge which is in place one week of every month is optional.
