From 1 January 2017, eligibility for family assistance and youth income support payments will factor in as income 100% of the fringe benefits an employee receives, instead of the current 51% basis.
People who work for certain not-for-profit organisations (PBIs, Health Promotion Charities, hospitals) will be exempt from this change however, and will not be affected. Employees who fall into this category need to let the Australian Government Department of Human Services know before 1 January 2017, to avoid a reduction in their Government payments.
