Another 5,500 charities lose their status

Approximately 5,500 not-for-profit organisations across Australia have just lost their charity status for failing to complete their Annual Information Statement requirements for two consecutive years.

The ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe, said that after exhaustive inquiries it was presumed that many of the charities were inactive. The clean-up of the Charity Register has resulted in the removal or revocation of close to 9,000 charities since the ACNC was established in December 2012.
