The Australian Charities and not for profits Commission (ACNC) has entered into a compliance agreement with the new board of the Returned Services League (RSL) South Australia following an investigation into the charity’s operations which uncovered “serious governance and financial management concerns”.
The ACNC investigation, which began in early 2017, found that RSL SA failed to ensure that its board took reasonable steps to ensure it (a) did not allow the charity to operate while insolvent, (b) acted in good faith and in the best interests of the charity, (c) disclosed perceived or actual conflicts of interest, (d) managed the charity’s financial affairs responsibly and (e) notified the ACNC of changes as required under the ACNC Act.
The RSL SA was placed into administration in April 2017 after a number of board resignations and investigations into the state of its finances.
